Patriotic Pinwheels with Rinea

Hello crafty friends!

I hope you are enjoying your quarantine downtime - I actually have enjoyed it a lot! I'm making some changes, letting go of some activities and really honing in on what I LOVE to do - which is mainly crafts, Cosmetology, Zumba and cooking!

Today I have for you a simple, fun for kids project to celebrate the 4th of July (or even Canada Day!) using Rinea Foiled Paper - pinwheels!

You don't need a ton of supplies for this project either - scissors, a ruler, some brads, pencils (or skewers), some hot glue....and of course, your RINEA Foiled Paper!  No special cutting equipment needed at all.

I used the Ruby Starstruck Foiled Paper, the BRAND NEW Cobalt/Gold Glossy Foiled Paper and the Arctic Starstruck Foiled Paper for these pinwheels.

Step One:

Cut your squares! I used 3x3, 4x4 and 6x6 sizes to make these pinwheels.

Step Two:

Measure out the center using a ruler and draw a line from each cornder towards center up to about 1" from the middle.

  

Step 3:

Cut along the lines!

Step 4:

Fold every other corner in towards the middle and secure with a brad.

  

Step 5:

Adhere to a stick of choice using hot glue. I used leftover school supply pencils and skewers - I really wanted to upcycle what I had on hand!  Now, if you would like these pinwheels to actually spin, you can use a thumbtack or pushpin and push into the eraser of the pencil (just make sure to trim the back of the pin off so it isn't sharp and sticking out of the back!).

Add some fun ribbon!

There you have it! Simple, patriotic pinwheels! You could use them to decorate your 4th of July partyscape, tuck one onto a birthday present as a bow (don't use the stick!), or just put them in your flowerbed for your party!

Canada Day Banner

If you remember my previous post HERE where I used Sophie earlier in the month, you will see I used a similar technique to color my Sophie!  I love my Nuvo Marker pens!!!  Once she was colored, I fussy cut out my images.

 

Then, I grabbed my Nuvo Smooth Precision Glue Pen and added some Diamond Dust Glitter.  I just wanted a little extra SPARKLE! Who doesn't love sparkle?

  

Next, I grabbed my Tonic Beautiful Bunting Grand Gala Dies an cut my banner pieces!  So easy!  I used the Fireworks Embossing Folder again too - but you can use the the STENCIL again to create the same technique!  Simply use a stylus to dry emboss from underneath the paper.

  

I wanted to really emphasize the fireworks, so I reached for my Nuvo Embellishment Mousse in Pure Platinum and just scraped it across the embossed areas using a palette knife. There was no particular plan with this - just a little extra something something! :)

 

I started to build my banner decorations!  I stamped an image from the Journal Mixed Media stamp set onto some die cut Sticker Paper using Versmark Ink and heat embossed with Red Apple Embossing Powder!  I thought that would add a fun background and some extra interest to the banner. 

Next, I simple adhered my Sophie and Canada Flags to the sticker papers using 1/2" Tear-ific Tape.  Then I adhered them to the banner!  My sentiments actually were made using the Sophie DIGI Set!  I wanted them enlarged so they would really stand out!  I used some thicker twine as my banner anchor.  Once it was done, I decided that I needed a little extra something on it - so I die cut some Tonic Craft Perfect Papers in Hailstorm and added the little bits to the banner!

Canada Day with Sophie Pup

Alrighty!  Let's get creating this gorgeous HANDMADE CARD!

First, I started by stamping my adorable puppy image with Versafine Black Ink, then colored it with the NEW Nuvo Marker Pens!!!  I didn't record which colors I used, I completely forgot!  Sorry :) I will try to remember next time. These markers blend beautifully!  I am new to Alcohol Marker coloring, but I found them very easy to work with. Then, using the Clear Mark Embossing Pen, I added some SILVER Embossing Powder to the flag pole :)  I stamped the sentiment with Versamark Ink and embossed with Red Apple Embossing Powder. I also added a hint of the Red Apple Embossing Powder to the maple leaf on the flag.

I trimmed the image out and used some red textured cardstock as a mat background. Of course I used 1/2" Tear-ific Tape to adhere all my layers!  For the EMBOSSED gold background, I actually had the Embossing Folder Version of the Fireworks Stencil!  BUT you could make the same background with the mirror cardstock using the stencil - just dry emboss it from the back!!  Isn't it a simple, yet GORGEOUS way to create a background? I figured that a celebration like Canada Day (or the Fourth of July!) can always include fireworks, right?

All of the layers were adhered with the 1/2" Tear-ific Tape!  Finally, I used the Red Berry Crystal Drops and Silver Moondust Glitter Drops were added to finish off the handmade card.
